Since the last update things have changed quite a bit. We were at 80 % of average Snowpack Statewide. Now we are less than 50 % for this date. We are expecting a sizeable storm this weekend that could leave us with 10-20 inches of new snow. However, it looks as though the run-off we will be much smaller than normal and that many of the areas rivers will be fishing well In May and June. On the down side conditions may be tougher and lower than normal in August and Septmeber. We still have 4-5 five weeks left of possible winter weather remaining - so cross you fingers/rods, etc. However for the time being conditions are very good on all the local waters.

Blue River- low and clear- fishing well near Green Mt. Reservoir
Colorado River is open , low and clear fishing well everywhere form Hot Sulphur to Glenwood
Arkansas River is in great shape starting to see some Caddis down low and baetis on cloudy days.
S. Park streams are low and clear and fishing well including the Dream Stream
Antero and Spinney Reservoirs are open and fishing great
Eagle river is good but has been dirty below Wolcott since the warm weather hit.

Look for all the rivers to be in great shape for a while after this cold snap hits.

Pray for Snow !

It's March 12, 2012 and spring is in the air ! All the local rivers are opening up and the fishing has been great.
The S. Platte at the Dream stream, the Arkansas near Salida, the Blue north of Silverthorne, the Colorado near Kremmling ,and the Eagle near Vail have all bee fishing great. As the lower valley snows melt the water can become discolored in the afternoon -so take note of that. Also, as we get into April the best fishing can be found after
a cold front or storm blows through and freezes things upf or a day or two.

With the snowpack at 82 % statewide condtions for the summer look great. We will still have plenty of snow during the next two months and unlike last summer the rivers should be in great shape by the end of June. So make your plans to head to the mountains to experience all our area has to offer.

I will update as condtions warrant !

My apologies in not keeping up with the reports. I guess the motto "no news is good news" applies here. I have just been too darn busy guiding , managing and fishing to do the update. Although we had the big run-off this year the snowpack definitely loaded the groundwater and flows are still great just about everywhere- especially on the Ark, Blue and Colorado Rivers. I just floated yesterday with two of the guides and the fishing was fantastic. We floated our private put-in from Yellow -DOG Ranch to Catamount and hooked about 60 fish/ boated 35. Most fish were in the 15-19 inch range with one 20 inch included. If you can find the time I would recommnend this trip soon. Also, we have bee floating from New Castle to Rifle with great results. This water will remain great until sometime in Novmeber . The Holmestead Ranch in s. park has also been great. Here's the latest flows and conditions.
